Sustainability We have integrated environmental sustainability into our organisation, providing training to all staff. We lead on key areas of NHS Trust Green Plans. This includes Estates and Capital, waste, food and nutrition. Electro Bio Medical Engineering (EBME) The EBME department at Warwick Hospital is responsible for the management, maintenance, and electrical safety testing of the wide range of medical equipment used throughout SWFT and is ISO 9001:2015 credited. The team ensures that devices such as infusion pumps, defibrillators, patient monitors, and diagnostic equipment are regularly serviced, calibrated, and repaired in line with manufacturers' guidelines. By supporting clinical teams with technical expertise and ensuring that equipment is reliable and safe to use, the EBME department plays a crucial role in delivering high-quality patient care. The department also advises on the procurement of new technology, helping the hospital to stay up to date with advancements in medical equipment. Their work reduces equipment downtime, enhances patient safety, and underpins the smooth running of day-to-day hospital operations. Tim Carter, Physiotherapy Operational Lead for Advanced MSK, CERU and Inpatient Stroke Equipment Loan Store The Equipment Loan Store at Warwick Hospital provides an essential service by supplying clinical teams with medical equipment to support safe care both within the acute hospital and in the community hospitals. The department manages a wide range of items such as pressure-relieving mattresses, infusion devices, enteral feeding equipment and nebulisers ensuring that patients have the right support to aid with recovery. Staff are responsible for the issue, tracking and electrical safety testing of all loaned equipment. By ensuring equipment is available, safe, and in good working order, the Loan Store helps reduce delays in treatment and plays a vital role in patient safety and wellbeing. Mattress Decontamination The Mattress Decontamination Department at Warwick Hospital plays a vital role in maintaining patient safety and infection control across the site. The team is responsible for the thorough cleaning, disinfection, and inspection of hospital mattresses, ensuring they meet strict hygiene and quality standards before being returned to the Equipment Loan Store for issue to the wards. The department supports frontline clinical staff and contributes to a safer, cleaner environment for patients and healthcare professionals alike. Portering Services The Company provides two dedicated portering teams at Warwick Hospital, supporting patient care through safe and efficient transport services: Radiology porters are responsible for transporting patients safely from ward areas to the Radiology department for a wide range of diagnostic tests Theatre porters (orderlies) work within the Theatre department and are primarily responsible for moving patients from ward areas to theatres. Linen, Laundry and Uniforms Hospital linen, laundry, and uniform services ensure the hygienic collection, cleaning, and timely delivery of bed linens, towels, gowns, scrubs, sterile dresses and staff uniforms. These services follow strict infection control standards to maintain cleanliness, prevent cross-contamination, and support the smooth operation of healthcare facilities. Key performance indicators are place to provide SWFT with assurances on compliance. Switchboard Our Switchboard team's responsibilities include: Connects patients, staff and external callers via fast and efficient communication Supporting emergency responses by activating critical procedures and contacting key personnel Providing administrative support for ID badges, locum packs, patient location enquiries and key management. The service is outsourced to Soft Service provider and follows protocols as outlined in National Standards for Healthcare Cleaning 2025 and uses hospital-grade cleaning agents to meet health and safety standards. Periodical audits are carried out by service provider, monitoring team and IP team to provide compliance assurances. Hospital Catering Hospital catering is a specialised service that provides nutritious, safe, and balanced meals tailored to the dietary needs of patients, staff, and visitors. It ensures food hygiene, meets medical dietary requirements, and supports patient recovery and well-being through carefully planned menus and strict quality control. Within retail the focus is on freshly prepared meals that are nutritious and provide for all dietary and cultural needs of staff and visitors. Accommodation The Company manages accommodation for SWFT which comprises of student style accommodation with flats, residential flats and residential houses. Accommodation is maintained and serviced to comfortable and safe lodging facilities for healthcare staff. This service ensures a supportive environment close to medical care, with amenities designed to promote rest, convenience, and ease of access to hospital. Pest Control Hospital pest control is a critical service that helps maintain a clean and safe healthcare environment by preventing and managing pests such as insects and rodents. It uses safe, effective methods and treatments tailored for sensitive hospital settings to protect patients, staff, and facilities from contamination and disease risks. Scanning Bureau The Scanning Bureau is responsible for scanning patient records into the e-record system and to support all teams to move to a full electronic record for all patients. Since certification in 2013, the team has worked to the British Standard BS10008 that specifies how electronically stored information (ESI) is to be managed by an organisation. The objectives of the Scanning Bureau are: To scan all ward discharge notes within 48 hours of being received To scan all elective and priority notes on the day they are received To support all admin and clinical teams to upload documents locally into the e-records system To support A&E and ward staff to get all ward notes bar codes and tracked on the PAS system To support ward staff with case note tracking training and queries. This includes: Updating demographics i.e. change of address, telephone numbers and searching for newborn babies details (their given names) once they have been registered Merge duplicate registrations, not as simple as this sounds when you have two patients’ details that do not quite match. You can be investigating a patients record for some time trying to determine if they are one and the same Issue folders for all planned Pre-ops and admissions, and much more.
